I was asked to contribute briefly to a discussion on how asylum seekers should be processed (Australia has until now kept them offshore while their claims are investigated). Does the UK's policy of allowing them into the country (and giving them accommodation and welfare while they are waiting for their case to be resolved) create social tensions with the host population?
